So you want to start a travel blog? Awesome! We’ve totally been there!

Starting a blog can be so exciting and such a fun venture to partake in. But once you start, it’s suddenly so easy to start drowning in HTML, hosting, branding, social media, and so much more. Being a blogger consists of you wearing many hats.

Let us help you take the frustration out of starting out. Start a travel blog with ease and learn from our mistakes!

Step 1: Selecting a brand name

When you start a travel blog, you have to have a great title! This was a step that we spent far too long on in the beginning. You want to choose something that resonates with your big picture goals. Not just something that feels good at the moment.

When we started our travel blog we chose a name that suited the situation we were in at that moment. We were a long distance couple, who had a passion for travel, so we branded ourselves as Hearts Around the Globe. The problem came when we moved in together and a title that resonated with long distance romance, no longer really suited us.

We forgot to look at our big picture goals.

When we asked, “What are our long term goals?”

Indefinite Travel came to fruition as we knew we wanted to travel indefinitely!

Step 2: Start a blog

Duh, right?! You have to take the leap to start the blog! This can be a headache if you don’t even know where to begin! There are so many resources out there trying to guide you on how to start a blog. So we’ve done the research for you and have been through the trial and error.

Check out our method on how to start a travel blog.
It’s an easy beginners guide that will cost you less than the price of a cup of coffee!

Step 3: Brand yourself

People need to recognize you.

Every brand has their signature colors, logo, themes and you recognize them. It draws you in. What’s Nike without “Just do it.” Or Starbucks without their signature white & green cup, or during the holidays their holiday designed cups? That is how they are known.

Make yourself known too! After you get started with your domain, select a theme and color scheme that you will stick with. Mojo Marketplace was our go to for themes (last step here). And they made it so easy to just start plugging in our colors and designs right away!

Then design a killer logo! You can use sites like Fiverr or Upwork to find a logo designer or we just created ours for free on Canva.

Step 4: Social Media

Social media is HUGE these days in the online world. The biggest mistake you could make in social media when you start a travel blog is to overwhelm yourself and sign up for every platform.

The top platforms to look at when you start a travel blog are: Facebook (page), Instagram, Pinterest, YouTube, and Twitter.

Start slow with 1-2 platforms at a time and focus on really building those up first. Then you can add more as you see fit.
