Tools You Need To Start A Blog

Blogging is not always easy. It seems harmless but once you fall in love with writing it’s kind of hard to not be addicted.

But once you feel like you are 2 steps ahead, you find out that you are 10 steps behind.

The further you get into the blogging world the more you feel urged to make money, write sponsored posts, do BIG BLOGGING THINGS! There are so many resources out there to make this as easy as possible but what do you need to get started? These things are the bare minimum for starting your first blog:

An EXCELLENT blog name

We recommend: Falling in love with your blog name, first

Picking a title in the land of billions of already made webpages is ridiculously hard.

Every time you come up with a killer title you search it and BAM… it’s been taken. So come up with a list of titles that you love and really think about it long term.

Take it from some people who changed their webpage title in the middle of their blogging lives. Saying “Hearts Around the Globe” made our blog seem silly and was kind of a little embarrassing to say out loud. So make your list, think about your prospective readers and what they are going to enjoy.

Even do some surveying. I know it’s hard to get your loved ones to hop on board with you dropping everything to blog your life away, but ask them their opinion still. They talked us out of several names that I’m happy are not our blog home now.

A webpage platform

We recommend: Bluehost

Bluehost + WordPress are excellent platforms for starting and sustaining your blog! It makes it seem like blogging is actually a cake walk in the park at first.

If you want your blog to be part of your lifestyle then you should buy your domain from somewhere reputable like Bluehost, at the start. Your site will look more credible when it says: yoursitename.com and not yoursitename.wordpress.com

A great theme!

We recommend: Elementor or Divi

You want your site to be visually appealing.

You want people to want to look at your site. So if you are not an avid web page designer then get an easy operable theme for your site. (If you are an avid web page designer and want to help us, we’ll take it!) Elementor and Divi are great for webpage design beginners because they are drag and drop, hello easy design!

Social media accounts

We recommend: (at the bare minimum) Pinterest, Instagram, Facebook

Check what platforms your niche thrives the most on.

Whatever channel you choose – You need to post on these regularly and make connections with people that will appreciate your content.

Back to the amazing title you’ve created… make sure you check social media platforms to see if your title has been taken.

It is possible that someone has a Instagram name but not a site to go with it, it doesn’t have to be the end of your title but it’s annoying when you find this information out later.

Some other necessities for blog start-ups:

Posts, Posts, Posts: excellent content = excellent traffic, have some posts readily available always in advance. WordPress has a great scheduling plugin that makes it very easy to have your posts go up automatically.

Some great photos lined up: People are very visual. Make sure you have some great photos to go with your great content.

Resources: Read up, as much as you can on what you want to do with your blog. Whether it be starting a business, or writing for entertainment. There are even classes you can take for free now to learn certain skills!

These tools are the minimum for starting up a blog.
It takes work to build a blog and if you want it to succeed it will be a full time job.

Are you a blogger? What would you add as necessary tools for start up?
