Favorite Stop: JB’s Fish Camp

If you ever find yourself in New Smyrna Beach, Florida then you have to make your way to JB’s Fish camp. You can eat amazing seafood + rent kayaks or paddle boards for the day!

JB’s is one of our absolute favorite spots to head to when we are in New Smyrna Beach.

So it only felt right to let everyone in on this hidden spot. It is so much more then just another beach side restaurant. It also offers water activity rentals; kayaks (single and double) and paddleboards. It’s also a great fishing spot and they offer bait for sale there too. I’m no fishing expert but it seems to be a big hit because we always see plenty of people out in their boats or sitting off shore with a pole in hand. We always rent a kayak for the day, it’s very reasonably priced and there is plenty to explore.

You’ll want to head over to a little cove, just North (less than half a mile) of JB’s, it’s where the dolphins and manatees hang out. They’ll swim right up to your kayak or board and let you pet them; it’s a super awesome experience! I won’t ever get tired of it.

This past time we paddled all the way out to Canaveral National Seashore Park and swam up to Turtle Mound, which is a prehistoric archaeological site inside the park. It’s probably a solid 2 miles out from JB’s, and if you’re fighting the current it feels a lot further. We recommend eating before you attempt that trip. We did not. “Hangry” rowers are not as fun. We still had a blast though!

To the food…

(Note: we do not have any pictures of the food due to extreme hunger, ha ha)

I’ve never had anything I don’t thoroughly enjoy there. It is always worth every penny. And this past time I found the gold medal winner of all seafood (not a dramatization). Crab balls. It is a crab cake (the best crab cake in the history of crab cakes, and I am a crab cake expert) rolled into a ball and then deep-fried to perfection. Worth every calorie. I seriously missed them when they were gone.

For our entree we split garlic scallops and 1/2 lb of spicy steamed shrimp. Yum. Along with my daiquiri and Andrew’s beer, our total came out to around $40. Not bad if you ask me.
