For example, our friend broke his ankle in Cambodia. Being from New Zealand he had health insurance, but in Cambodia it did not work.
They told him they would have to do a radical surgery to fix his ankle, including reconstruction on his foot and he wouldn’t walk the same.
He called a doctor back home and they said; “no way was that necessary.”
Since his insurance didn’t cover any of this overseas, he had to pay out of pocket not only for medical bills on his trip to the doctor there but a very expensive emergency flight home.
