What’s it really like to travel as a couple?
We’ve pulled back the curtains on traveling as a couple before, we’re back with some of our favorite parts of traveling together.
I LOVE traveling with Andrew and we have certainly learned a lot about each other and gone through many ups and downs of traveling.
We’ve missed planes, we’ve been on deferred flights – causing us to miss connections, we’ve sprinted through airports, dreaded lines at customs, sat next to the worst airplane passengers, battled language barriers, gotten lost and oh, so much more!
But we have also fallen in love with the world – while falling more in love with each other, we have conquered hikes we didn’t think we could do and danced through waves all over the seas, we’ve shared kisses around the world and snuggled up for airport naps. I wouldn’t trade it for the world!
So am I crazy?! Why won’t I trade the madness? Here are 5 important lessons you learn when traveling as a couple:
Letting Loose
When you are going through the motions of life at home and passing by each other before a bedtime routine, sometimes you forget to have fun! Traveling allows you to do things you never thought you would and sharing them with someone you love is all the more fun!
Romance
There is just something about being in a new land with your lover that makes you want to be swept off your feet! You can go on a romantic walk together just to enjoy the city lights, or have a dinner date – which let’s face it, will beat your apartment Tuesday night dinners by a long shot!
You remember to hold hands and kiss each other sweetly when you see a gorgeous new sunset. You fall in love all over again every trip!
Patience
You HAVE to learn patience when you are traveling with your partner! There are so many different barriers when you are in the new, you have to let go and let them do things their way sometimes.
Trust
There is a lot of trust when you leave on a journey with your partner. Trust that they won’t leave you in another country, trust that they won’t sell you for pesos when you run out right before your trip home, trust that they won’t push you off the diving board… ha ha only kidding.
But really when you are in intense circumstance there (should be) a natural trust among the two of you! All will turn out well.
You fall in love with everything
When you’re traveling, you’re going to see your partner at their best and at their worst. You’re going to see them in the purest light of joy you’ve ever seen, you’ll see them with a glow in their eyes hungering for more. But you also might encounter a stomach bug from drinking the water or not showering on a 17-hour travel day and feeling disgusting!
When you have each other, you’re going to love it all! You learn to love them at their best and at their very worst.
What have you learned from your adventures together?! Tell us in the comments 🙂

Nice little piece. I agree with all that you’ve written – and I think it’s those 5 points that you have written about that makes the bond stronger (like sitting at home on the couch and watching the next tv show will not!)
‘Trust that they won’t sell you for pesos’ hahaha this is so true. Especially the part about patience. Great post. 🙂
Thank you! And yes, Megan happened to spend all of our pesos in Mexico on a beach massage haha, so we had $0 to catch a bus ride home. But we figured it out and no one was sold or traded haha
Love this! My boyfriend and I travelled for 6 months together and I couldn’t have had a better experience. We’re planning some smaller trips now and I’m super excited. It’s so nice to share all the amazing experiences with someone!
Check out my blog if you get the chance.

I couldn’t agree more! I (Andrew) have traveled solo before but I can’t compare it to traveling with Megan because it’s so amazing to experience someone else’s excitement when you’ve reached an amazing destination or have had a once in a lifetime experience!
My husband is my favorite person to travel with!
