How To Get Access To Airport Lounges

Have you ever been walking through the airport after a long flight waiting for your layover, or find yourself in an insane situation like a 12 hour long delayed flight, walking passed the airport lounges and wondering… How can I get myself in those lounges?!

Or maybe you’re a little more bitter about it, thinking… Must be nice to have the luxury of being in a lounge, I’ll never be there.

Today, we’re going to show you how you can access the airport lounges without airline status, while on a budget, and all while flying economy if that’s how you roll… or fly, I suppose.

Unlimited Lounge Access With the Capital One Venture X Card

Airport lounge access has honestly changed the way we travel and makes long layovers much more manageable, it even makes Andrew get to the airport early, which is a huge win for me!

So, how do you get access to airport lounges without breaking the bank?!

Option 1:
The Priority Pass

Let’s dive into some of the benefits…

Inside airport lounges you can get access to:

Free food & drinks: This has honestly saved us hundred on long trips, you know how expensive airport food is.

Free drinks in the airport lounge

Showers: I thought this was a weird perk… Until the 12 hour layover. There’s nothing like a shower after a long flight. It is a complete refresh for the next leg of your journey.

Free [fast] wifi: Calling all remote workers, working on layovers does not have to be a frustrating task! For the most part we have found extremely fast wifi in every lounge we’ve been to.

Spa Access: This is usually an extra fee in lounges, but if you’re feeling like getting pampered, you can have a spa trip on member’s fees, no extra hefty fee.

Some really cool bonus extras around the world: I didn’t know how else to phrase this one… but in Singapore we got access to a sunflower garden, how zen between a flight?! A movie theater in England, massage chairs in Thailand, and sleeper pods.

P.S. We snagged our readers 10% off the Priority Pass, get your discount pass to lounges around the world here!

Yes… that is in a lounge… that you get access to.

Besides all of the airport lounge features we get through Priority Pass, we love the app the Priority Pass has too!

You simply search the airport you are in, or going to; and you’ll see all of the lounges you get access to, the features it has, pictures and even directions and what terminal it is in!

Option 2:
Apply For A Credit Card That Has Lounge Access

Our other favorite method is to have a credit card that includes lounge access as a benefit. These cards often include an annual fee, however, if you’re an avid traveler, the card pays for itself.

For example, one of our favorite new cards, is the Capital One Venture X Card. It has an annual fee of $395, which might seem high at first, however, if you look at all the benefits, then you’ll see how it’s a steal:

  • Unlimited Priority Pass and Capital One Lounge Access – often times a lounge can be $35 – $70 per person.
  • Annual Travel Credit – Receive up to $300 towards annual travel credit. This can go towards flights, hotels or car rentals.
  • Rental Credit – $200 towards Airbnb or VRBO rentals
  • Airport Security Credit – $100 credit to apply for Global Entry or TSA Pre-check programs
  • Sign up bonus – 100,000 miles (at the time of writing this) which can be applied to flights, hotels, or rentals.
  • and much more!

Is the Priority Pass worth it?

Either option we shared includes lounge access through Priority Pass, so you’ll have to decide which option is best for you. Either way, if you travel often, find yourself on long layovers, hate spending way too much on a bottle of water at the airport, like saving money, or just enjoy a touch of luxury on your trips then the Priority Pass is absolutely worth it!

We’ve used it every single trip we’ve gone on since getting the Priority Pass, so far we’ve only found ourselves in two airports without lounges – both were very small airports, that you wouldn’t expect to have a long layover in. We’ve saved literally hundreds of dollars on food, and felt like refreshed travelers on our journey.
